Peter's Getaway: 14 nights Best of the Maldives – 03/2025
+++ Peter's Getaway: Best of the Maldives +++
14 nights on the Seascape liveaboard 🏝️
If you like the following, this trip might be for you!
Spectacular Diving 🤿
Big schools of fish, thriving reefs, big pelagics and island that you usually only see in a travel brochure. This is what this trip to the Maldives is all about: the best diving in the most paradise circumstances. It's a true *getaway* for divers that love the exotic.
Experienced Triplead ⚓
Our Tripleader Peter Löseke has been to the Maldives for over 20 times. He knows the atolls, the reefs and the divesites in and out. He is the guy that can bring you to that special spot, and make shots of you with the animals you always dreamed of! Oh and he also loves a nice sunset beer!
Wonderful Nightdives 🌌
The absolute highlight of this trip are the breathtaking night dives! Not only will we be diving reefs after sundown, the headlamps on the back of the boat and our torches will attract mantas charging in out of nowhere. And, if we are lucky, there might even be a whaleshark popping up feeding on plankton!
Flexibility Wins 🗺️
We are taking on this adventure without a set itinerary, and with good reason. Diving in the Maldives, as in may other places, is heavily reliant on weather conditions. This flexibility allows us to quickly shift and handcraft the best next dive on the spot!
Paradise Destination 🌏
The Maldives is a heaven on earth destination: turquoise waters, stellar sunsets and tropical weather. It's the perfect place to press the pause button and breathe in the natural beauty on show. We might even sneak out to a deserted island to see what paradise really looks like.
A Fresh Boat 🛥️
The Seascape is a state of the art liveaboard that is perfectly designed and equipped to safely host a 14 night dive adventure. Comfortable and luxurious, it's the quality you count on when diving the Indian Ocean. Tons of space and a local crew as well!
Best of Maldives
"Since the 90's I have been diving the pristine Maldivian waters. Since then, very little has changed: waters full of life, white sandy beaches and after dive cocktails with fellow ocean enthusiasts. This extended trip offers us the chance to take the time at spots we love more and give us full flexibility to make the best trip imaginable."

Itinerary
We are organizing this trip without a fixed itinerary in order to remain flexible and take the freedom to stay longer at the particularly impressive sites.
Our rough route first takes us to the south, where we dive in the channels with dozens of sharks and eagle rays and are amazed by the diversity of the underwater world. We continue to the Ari Atoll, where at this time of year we have the best chance of encountering whale sharks and manta rays.
Of course, it should be noted that nature has its own laws and not everything is always predictable. Nevertheless, we will use our knowledge and experience to make this special trip an unforgettable experience.
Particularly impressive are our night dives, where we have the unique opportunity to dive with manta rays in the spotlight or snorkel with whale sharks. These magical moments underline the enchantment of the Maldives.
During our tour we explore secluded sandy beaches where we enjoy the unique atmosphere with breathtaking sunsets and a cozy beer.

Kaimana to Ambon - 11 nights on the Adelaar 🌅
If you like the following, this trip might be for you:
A Different Indonesia 🇮🇩
Ambon to Kaimana is an atypical itinerary in one of Indonesia's most pristine areas: the Banda Sea. Weather conditions don't allow this itinerary all year round, and a lot of operators therefor don't offer it. If you are looking for a tad "different" Indonesia than what the usual liveaboard adventure brings you, then this trip is a safe bet. Secret: it's one of the captain's favourite itineraries too!
Exquisite Timing 🔨
Apart from the incredible reef structures and top corals, divers can expect to encounter animals rarely seen anywhere else such as schools of scalloped hammerheads and sea snakes at Manuk. The timing of the trip is not accidental either: we are likely to encounter whales sharks given that we are cruising out on new moon. An on land highlight is the extraordinary Kiti Kiti Waterfall in Momon.
UW Photography Tips 📷
David Serradell is the BTM Travel trip leader on this journey. He is not only a scuba and freedive instructor but also a professional underwater photographer! With some small adjustments, this is the guy that can help you take your underwater photos to the next level. He is also handling a RED camera to take some awesome shots of guests and wildlife. Oh and he is just an all-round nice guy too!
Top Liveaboard ⛵
The Adelaar is one of our favourite boats in Indonesia. This traditional phinisi looks badass, it is comfortable as hell and it has a top crew. A professional dive deck and camera space, clean cabins and top food: really everything you'd desire for a top level dive adventure.
Small Group Travel 👥
You already know what this one is about: at BTM Travel we safeguard authentic, and international group diving. We love bringing people from all over the world together, making the dive experience dynamic and intimate. 🫧
Banda Islands 🏝️
The Banda Islands are considered special due to their unique historical and ecological significance. Historically, these islands were once the world's only source of nutmeg. Ecologically, the Banda Islands boast exceptional marine biodiversity with endemic species.
A Different Indonesia
This itinerary is different and lesser explored than Indonesia's top selling destinations such as Komodo and Raja Ampat. If you are looking for a trip that is a bit out of the ordinary, this might be it!
Absolute Top Destination

Day 1 Kaimana
Our team is standing by to collect you from the airport, or from your hotel and transfer you to the harbour. Spend your first day on Adelaar settling in and getting acquainted with the boat, the crew, and your fellow guests. Enjoy the amazing views as we navigate toward the first night’s anchorage. Weather permitting, we will prepare the al fresco dining area for the first of many of our tasty meals.
Day 2 Namatote
Under new moon, we will spend the day in the north of the island of Namatote. There we visit the traditional outrigger fishing platforms that are regularly visited by what the fishermen refer to as ‘mothers of fish’, i.e. the world’s largest fish, the majestic whalesharks. 3-Day Dives, 1-Night Dive
Day 3 Dramai
The southern most point of our voyage is the island of Dramai. The waters surrounding this island are a sheer fish lover’s paradise. Reminiscent of rush hours in a big city, schools of different species of snappers, sweetlips, surgeonfish, batfish, fusiliers, jacks and other species make it so dense, it is difficult for divers to get a glimpse of the unique topography. The coral studded underwater formations include massive overhangs and swim throughs. With a bit of luck, we may even encounter oceanic manta rays. 3-Day Dives, 1-Night Dive
Day 4 Iris Strait
There is a regular through-flow of water in the Iris Strait between mainland New Guinea and Aiduma Island. This steady supply of nutrients triggers a veritable explosion of coral growth. Healthy areas dominated by enormous hard coral formations are interchanged with slopes covered in immense black coral bushes. The surrounding area is literally invaded by the largest and most colourful soft coral gardens that exist. All of this benthic life attracts schools of fish and squadrons of mobula rays. 3-Day Dives, 1-Night Dive
Day 5 Triton Bay
The diving in Triton Bay is unique, as the small islands act as fish magnets and feature exquisite coral growth of both hard and soft corals. The bay is home to a plethora of critters such as pygmy seahorses, leopard and tiger shrimps, endemic flasher wrasses or rare cephalopods. On night dives in this bay, be on the lookout for Triton Bay’s endemic walking shark. A structure resembling a huge underwater coral caldera is one of the topographic features of this area. Another topside highlight is our speedboat tour through the maze of the large Triton Bay lagoon with its countless hidden bays and channels surrounded by unique karst rock formations. 3-day dives, 1-night dive
Day 6 Momon
The Momon Area of New Guinea is without a doubt one of the highlights for photographers. The very photogenic Kiti Kiti waterfall falls directly out of the vibrant jungle and into a turquoise sea. For those who are up for a land excursion, there are opportunities to venture into the jungle forest.
But first, there will be dives along the seamounts off the coast, known for their big schools of big eye trevallies, sharks, pelagic fish and oceanic manta rays. 3-day dives
Day 7 Koon
Do you like diving with a lot of fish? In that case Koon is the place for you. Apart from having too many fish to list, there is also a spectacular land – or rather surface – activity nearby. Depending on the tide we can enter a hidden system of marine lakes and canals for a snorkel and swim trek unlike any other! Typically, at the end of the trail you will be greeted by enthusiastic local village children. 3-day dives
Day 8 Watubela
The Watubela archipelago is also regularly visited by schooling hammerhead sharks. However, this is not the only charm of these remote islands located at the border between the Banda and Seram Sea. Spectacular white sandy beaches offer perfect locations for those postcard sunset drinks after a day’s diving surrounded by schooling fish. 3-day dives
Day 9 Hatta
Hatta, the easternmost Island of the Banda archipelago, is named after Indonesia’s first vice-president who spent time here in exile. The diving off Hatta is dedicated solely to seeing schooling hammerhead sharks. The sight of groups ranging from a handful to literally hundreds of those majestic animals is an unforgettable experience, and one of the main reasons the diving in the Banda Sea is so special. 4-day dives
Day 10 Manukang
Our first stop is Manukang, a volcanic outcrop that according to Moluccan lore, is known to be haunted. This we cannot judge, but what we do know, is that it attracts its fair share of pelagic visitors. Schooling hammerhead sharks swim along the underwater ridges that are covered in huge barrel sponges. 4-day dives
Day 11 Nusa Laut/Ambon
Our last diving day can be pelagic or macro oriented depending on our guest preferences. 2-day-dives
Day 12 Ambon
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye and disembark – until the next time.
The Adelaar
Experience unparalleled luxury liveaboard diving in Indonesia, aboard the spectacular 39m Dutch Schooner, M/V Adelaar. This stunning vessel showcases a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern elegance. Adelaar Indonesia boasts opulent teak paneling, lofty ceilings, and a chic salon and dining area. Guests can indulge in the allure of a magnificent master suite and three outstanding staterooms.
Each stateroom is equipped with individual climate control, en-suite marble bathrooms, and flat-screen televisions for a personalized experience. The upper and lower decks offer stylish seating areas with breathtaking views. The attentive ten-member crew is dedicated to fulfilling every guest’s needs, ensuring utmost comfort and satisfaction throughout the journey. Adelaar’s skilled chefs curate a menu featuring exquisite gourmet Indonesian and Western cuisine, while the fully stocked bar provides a selection of cold drinks, local beers, imported wines, and spirits. Embarking on scuba diving adventures from Adelaar unveils a world of diverse marine life, including vibrant fish and pelagic species.
Banda Sea
The Banda Sea, situated proximate to the Maluku Islands in Eastern Indonesia, constitutes a maritime expanse that transcends conventional characterization. Encompassed by a constellation of islands within its quadrilateral seas, this remote enclave within the ‘Ring of Fire’ has resisted the encroachments of modern civilization, presenting itself as a sanctuary of pristine natural beauty. Distinctive features include a special underwater topography, with the northern basin descending to a depth of 19,000 feet and the southern basin to 17,700 feet, marked by the seismically active Gunung Api and flourishing coral reefs, thereby establishing the Banda Sea as a habitat for majestic marine species such as hammerhead sharks.
For lovers of underwater exploration, a sojourn into the Banda Sea is an unparalleled experience. It unveils a realm of marine vitality largely untouched by human influence, affording remarkable encounters with biannually occurring congregations of schooling hammerhead sharks. Beyond this spectacle, the Banda Sea commands acclaim for its diverse macroscopic marine life, encompassing seahorses, elusive rhinopias, and other compelling species. The Manuk Islands, identified as a particularly noteworthy dive site, beckon with the presence of sizable sea snakes and the opportunity to witness the captivating display of schooling hammerhead sharks. Within the heart of Indonesia, the Banda Sea emerges as an undiscovered treasure, beckoning discerning explorers to delve into its untarnished depths and witness the sublime harmonies of nature.

Sorong is a small city so most of the hotels are located within 10 – 20 minutes to Sorong Harbour, while Sorong Airport is only located 10 minutes by car from the harbour.
DAY 1

As guest arrivals take place all through the day depending on flights, you are welcome to board when you arrive and spend some time unpacking and setting up your equipment, etc. Following the boat and safety briefing, Mermaid II will start cruising to the area of Misool. The first cruising will be done overnight. It is almost impossible to put together a daily itinerary due to the magnificent diving everywhere Mermaid II goes. No trip is the same, with so many different sites to visit and explore. If there is somewhere in particular you really have your heart set on, please discuss with the Cruise Director who will do their utmost to get you there – conditions, ship and your safety allowing!

Heading to the central part of Raja Ampat dive around the island of Yanggefo, with beautiful mangrove areas, stunning reefs covered in orange and purple soft corals and submerged reef with lots of schooling fish. Arborek and Sawanderek Villages are some of the most beautiful islands to visit and great to dive under their jetty! The jetty pillars are covered in soft corals – a photographer’s delight and also good for macro such as signal gobies, nudibranchs, pipefish, blue ringed octopus and more. The Mantas are then calling us to visit the famous Dampier Strait in the central part of Raja Ampat. Here Mantas hang out at their cleaning stations along with all the schooling fish that the sites have to offer. At some of the sites in the Dampier Strait, the macro marine life is amazing with critters such as the seamoth, Pontohi pygmy seahorse, pipefish and more. The Dampier Strait is also well known for an incredible amount of schooling fish. There are several pinnacles with zillions of fish. The tips (capes) of several islands are also home to lots of schooling fish – barracudas, bigeye jacks, snappers, zillions of fusiliers and surgeonfish and much more. As if that weren’t enough, here you can find lots of wobbegong sharks!
DAY 8 +++2 DIVES
Two dives in Dampier Strait. More of the same. Fish, fish, fish, glorious corals andall! Then back to Sorong Mermaid II must go. The crew will take care of rinsing your equipment and there’s time to pack during this 4-5 hour run.
DAY 9
After breakfast, Mermaid II staff will transfer you to the airport. This is a sample itinerary and is subject to changes beyond the operator’s control. The exact itinerary, route and amount of dives for your cruise may be adapted to best suit the weather conditions, tides and currents, season and other prevailing events.

Azores' Wild Wonders - 8/25
+++ Azores' Wild Wonders +++
12 nights in Faial & Santa Maria 🇵🇹
If you like the following, this trip might be for you:
Sensational Sharks 🦈
The waters around the island of Faial still attract blue sharks species in large numbers. During these dives, other shark species such as mako sharks and smooth hammerheads can sometimes be spotted! And that is not all. Around the end of summer the warmer waters around the Azorean island of Santa Maria attract the ocean's largest fish: whale sharks.
Dolphins & Whales 🐋
The Azores are a true hotspot for cetaceans, predominantly whales and dolphins. One of the most emblematic species around the island are sperm whales.Although diving with these giants is not allowed without permit, experiencing their presence from a small boat can be just as exhilarating. Jumping in with the giant pods of dolphins is allowed though!
Manta Madness 🪁
Flocking together in groups as big as 60 individuals, the sickle fin devil ray spends the summer around offshore seamounts in Azorean waters of Princess Alice. This rock formation does not only attract rays either, as large schools of other fish are often seen around the pinnacle. Schools of tuna, barracuda and amberjacks are often spotted sawrming the area.
Unique Combotrip 🌋
The Azores comprise of 9 islands, offering travellers a lot of areas to explore. We want to make sure people making the journey here, can actually enjoy as much of the marine spectacles as possible. That is why we offer a combotrip to of arguably the best diving places in the archipelago for large pelagics and more: both Faial and Santa Maria.
BTM Trip Leader 🇵🇹
There is no one better to lead our valued divers than a Portuguese dive instructor who lives for diving and knows the Azores inside out. Meet Filipe Casal Ribeiro, your BTM Trip Leader for this trip. He is the guy that will fix your buoyancy, tell you how ghostnets are taken out of our oceans and can imitate the Azores dialect like no other!
Small Group Travel 👨👩👦👦
In order to keep the interactions in the water as authentic as possible, we try to keep our group travels small and intimate. We set a maximum group size of 8 people for this journey to the Volcanic island in the middle of the Atlantic. The Azores are a place where time stood still, and we want to do our best to help keep it that way.
This place is alive
"The Azores are a top destination on our European doorstep. Hardly any mass tourism, authentic small accommodations and warm hearted people. The ocean is full of surprises here: dolphins, sharks, whales... There always seems to be something that is popping out on the surface. It's just alive. We had a great time in Santa Maria last year, and I'm happy we can finally bring a limited group of divers there to experience something different."

The Azores
The Azores (Portuguese: Açores) are an island archipelago located in the North Atlantic Ocean, roughly halfway between mainland Portugal and North America. The archipelago consists of nine islands of volcanic origin that are known for their untouched natural scenery and friendly inhabitants. Apart from the volcanic craters, green meadows, lakes and waterfalls, Azores are a true eco-tourism paradise offering incredible marine biodiversity, whale watching and world-class diving.
The Island of Faial
Located only 4.5 nautical miles from the island of Pico and approximately 14 nautical miles from the island of São Jorge, Faial is one of the ‘Triangle Islands’. Recognised as the yachting capital of the northern hemisphere, it has a strong connection to the sea with its main port – Horta Marina – providing a safe harbour for thousands of vessels as they cross the Atlantic. The number of sailboats huddled in the small bay adds to the charm of this city, which lies in the shadow of the extinct volcano of Guia Hill. No visit to Horta is complete without a visit to one of its most famous Portuguese bars – Peter’s Café Sport. Overlooking the Marina with Mount Pico as its backdrop, the walls are covered in flags left by travellers, giving the bar a sense of the history of the city. Faial was the site of the Azores last major eruption, the Capelinhos Volcano (1957/58). The landscape created by the eruption on the island’s west tip makes for a fascinating day trip and the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre has lots of information about the devastation caused by the event.
The Island of Santa Maria
Santa Maria is one of the nine islands that make up the Azores archipelago, situated in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is the southernmost and oldest of the Azorean islands, with a rich history dating back to its discovery in 1427. Santa Maria is known for its stunning natural beauty, featuring lush green landscapes, picturesque beaches, and rugged cliffs. The island’s climate is relatively dry and warm compared to the other Azorean islands, making it a popular destination for sun-seekers and outdoor enthusiasts. Santa Maria also offers a glimpse into its historical past with charming villages, traditional architecture, and cultural festivals that celebrate its unique heritage.
More about Azores islands
All the nine islands of the Azores Archipelago are of volcanic origin and are located in the North Atlantic, scattered along a 600 km stretch of ocean from Santa Maria to Corvo, approximately between 37° and 40° north latitude and 25° and 31° west longitude.
The islands of the archipelago are divided in three geographical groups: the Eastern Group, comprising Santa Maria and São Miguel, the Central Group, including Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial, and the Western Group, composed by Corvo and Flores. The Azores, along with the archipelagos of Madeira, Canary Islands and Cape Verde, constitute the biogeographic region of Macaronesia, a name which means “fortunate islands” for those who live there and visit them.
In the realm of legend, some associate the Azores to the Atlantis, the mythical island kingdom quoted by Plato. As for history, references to nine islands in the Atlantic Ocean located approximately in the position of the Azores can be found in books and maps since the 14th century. However, it was with the Portuguese Maritime Discoveries, led by Prince Infante D. Henrique, that the Azores were definitely registered in the map of Europe. It is unknown whether the first navigator to reach the archipelago was Diogo de Silves in 1427 or Gonçalo Velho Cabral in 1431. The origin of the name Azores is also debatable as there are various theories. The most common associates the designation of the common buzzards found on the islands which were mistaken as being another bird of prey: the northern goshawk (açor). What is now certain is that it was Prince Infante D. Henrique who incited the settlement of the islands. First, animals were sent, between 1431 and 1432, and later settlers started to arrive from 1439.
From that date, the settlement continued throughout the 15th century (Western and Central Groups) and the 16th century (Western Group). Jews, Moors, Flemish, Genovese, Englishmen, Frenchmen, and African slaves came together with the Portuguese from the mainland to face the hardships of such a task.
This epic start moulded a people that throughout the centuries was able to resist volcanic eruptions, isolation, invasions of pirates, political wars and infesting diseases. The courage of the Azorean people was confirmed when they resisted the Spanish domination during the succession crisis of 1580, and when they supported the liberal movement during the civil war (1828-1834).
The Azores have a long list of natural parks, of areas of protected landscape, of protected fauna and flora species, of forest reserves, and of sites with geological interest guaranteeing the preservation of a priceless natural legacy. As a form of compensation for all of this effort, the Azores are considered to be a sanctuary of biodiversity and geodiversity and one of the best locations for Nature Tourism.
In the Atlantic Ocean, life multiplies itself by more than two dozen species of dolphins and whales that either inhabit or pass through Azorean waters. There are abundant colonies of molluscs, crustaceous and fish, thus completing the region’s extraordinary marine diversity.

Tauchen in Französisch-Polynesien

No wonder this is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Sharks and Mantas
Tubbataha's reefs are not only famous for the coral forests it is home to, also larger pelagic animals roam these waters! Whale sharks and manta's are passing through Tubbataha right in the time when we venture out! Reef sharks are residents, and out in the blue silky sharks and many other species can pop up as well. Anything can happen here!

Malapascua's location within the Philippines places it at the edge of the Coral Triangle, and its waters are part of this vital marine ecosystem. Diving and snorkeling enthusiasts visiting Malapascua can experience firsthand the stunning reefs the incredible array of marine life that make the Coral Triangle so exceptional. So it's not *just* thresher sharks, believe us.
This trip is open for everybody
Viewpoints from cultures all over the globe inspire us, that’s why we love bringing people from different backgrounds together. The more diverse, the better we feel.
A Balanced Combo
"To have not just one but two top diving locations in a country as big as the Philippines is truly a unique experience for any person that loves ocean life. Both Tubbataha and Malapascua are well known for a good reason: spectacular diving in paradise circumstances. Filipino people are truly lovely, giving the human aspect of this travel also an extra dimension." - Marcel Wilpernig
Untouched Beauty
The reefs and seas we will be diving are pristine and untouched: it is truly diving as it used to be in a lot of other (now heavily affected) places. The abundance of ocean life is something that brings hope and extreme joy. We love transferring this feeling to our beloved guests and bring together a group of ocean loving enthusiasts that returns home inspired.

Orcas Norway Kinfish – 11/2025
If you like the following, this trip might be for you:
Orcas
The fjords in the Lofoten area are undoubtedly THE best place on earth to observe orcas in their natural habitat, while hunting for herring in the north of Norway! Whether you want to spot them from the boat or share time the water, it will be an outstanding experience that you will never forget!
Freediving & Snorkeling
This trip is exclusive to snorkelers & freedivers as there are no scuba diving opportunities in the Fjords. No scuba certification needed, so a decent fitness level is enough to participate in this adventure!
Humpback Whales
Although often perceived as the Orca Kingdom, there are other predators who also want a piece of the pie! Over the past few years, humpback whales have been spotted regularly joining the orca during the herring feeding frenzies.
Northern Lights
Another highlight on this insane trip: the Northern lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are a natural phenomenon that occurs when electrically charged particles from the sun collide with particles in the Earth's atmosphere. This collision creates incredible, colourful lights that dance across the sky, making for a truly breathtaking sight.
Experienced Operator
The intense action and sometimes rough conditions require an exquisite operator. Our partner in Norway has many years of experience in these orca trips, making them a valued and trusted choice. Their high level of professionalism and excellent reputation is why we have chosen to work with the Kinfish crew!
Luxury Liveaboard
The Kinfish is a small ship with a rich history and raw character. The vessel is used for research quests during the winter months, such as uncovering the history of Norway and finding Viking remains. With a fantastic stabilisation system, this vessel provides a high level of comfort for a superior cruising experience.

Nov 24 – 30, 2024
The following is an approximate itinerary as the final itinerary, of course, depends on the sea, the weather and the animals. Expert guides will accompany you on your whale watching adventures to provide information and guidance.
Day 1: Arrival and boarding
Arrival at Tromsø airport and transfer to the harbor. In the afternoon you will board your ship, settle in and explore the ship.
Day 2-6: The search is on
Surrounded by the dramatic Norwegian fjords, you’ll spend 5 full days following schools of herring … and pods of orcas & humpbacks. The bridge of the ship is a great place to look for whales and enjoy theamazing light and the awesome scenery. Whenever the conditions are right and animals are in the vicinity, you can board the Zodiacs to snorkel and photograph the animals and feeding frenzies.
You can watch the highlights from the spacious deck or join the Zodiac excursions for up-close whale watching and excellent photography opportunities. You may also have the opportunity to go ashore to visit some of the historical fishing villages situated in the fjords. But, the top highlight is the in-water experience with the whales, orcas & herring!
During the darker hours you will enjoy the warm and cozy comfort of the expedition yacht while your expert guides entertain you with presentations and educational information on wildlife and cinematography and films. Excellent food is served three times a day, with a warm meal during lunch and diner. Beer and wine are available.
Also, of course, the winter months mean displays of the Aurora Borealis. With a bit of luck you might be treated to some of this delight.
Day 7: Disembarkation
The ships usually arrive back in Tromsø the night before disembarkation. After breakfast and farewell to your crew, it is unfortunately time to disembark. The guides can arrange a transfer to the airport or to your hotel if you choose to extend your stay in Norway.

Komodo in winter
South Komodo is a region which has been added in recent years to several liveaboard itineraries from October to May. The waters are clear and warm, the conditions excellent for diving during a season when northern Komodo is cold! Perfect conditions for photographers, videographers and any ocean enthusiast that is in love with colourful waters!
Marine biodiversity
Critters, corals & great pelagic action greet you in Komodo & the Alor Islands, to the south & moving east in Indonesia. Home to fabulous soft corals & reef fish, plus sharks & mantas enough to make every dive an adventure. In the opinion of many experienced divers, Komodo is the ultimate diving experience in Indonesia.
Manta Rays
One of the unquestionable highlights for divers in Komodo are without doubt the humongous manta rays. The two species are the Reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi) and the Giant manta rays (Mobula birostris). They fly by at cleaning stations, circling as a gigantic carpet above and around divers!

Damai I
"Damai I & Damai II are two of the most highly acclaimed of Indonesia's boutique liveaboards ... with good reason. In addition to their intimate nature, carrying only a few divers, and their boutique beauty, these two vessels offer some extraordinary off-the-beaten-track itineraries ... all of which make me wish I could just travel and dive forever without stopping! If you're thinking luxury liveaboard in Indonesia, and if your budget allows, you should definitely consider the Damai sisters." - Dominick Macan
Alor to Komodo
In Alor, you'll find pristine waters full of masses of fish, loads of invertebrates ... and more of those alluring critters. As to topography, you'll find shear drops, huge pinnacles, great walls ... all covered with rich & thriving corals which attract diverse fish life. Add to that, visiting pelagics and you have a magical mix.
South Komodo is a recent addition to liveaboards in this time of year. The conditions are excellent for diving during a season when northern Komodo is cold! The balance between the two destinations is just perfect.

Socorro & Magdalena Bay Combotrip 11/25
+++Mexico Madness+++
🇲🇽
The Dream trip: Socorro & Magdalena Bay
If you like the following, this trip might be for you:
A Unique Mexico Combo
Mexico is such a diving Valhalla, that divers often tells us its a pity they have to travel quite far and ultimately choose one location in a country that offers so many. This is why we handcrafted a “best of the best” Socorro Magbay combo trip that offers the unique opportunity dive in both of these wildlife hotspots in one single travel. We lack space on this page to truly describe how special this one is.
Socorro Island
The volcanic islands of Revillagigedo form a spectacular underwater theatre in the middle of the Pacific. Its most well known island Socorro, is a magnet for large pelagics such as its legendary oceanic manta’s, tons of sharks, dolphins and big schools of fish. It’s mysterious and humongous underwater rock formations are as spectacular as the animals that surround it. And if that was not enough, there is another HUGE plus: November in Socorro means a very decent shot at whale shark sightings!
Magdalena Bay
The 50km long Magdalena Bay in Mexico’s Baja California is as wild, versatile and thrilling as Socorro, yet the animals encountered there are completely different. Each year in November, it is home to the second biggest sardine migration in the world, attracting big pelagic fish such as marlins and sea lions. The place is a whale hotspot as well, and has the famous mobula ray schools in its arsenal too. Important: due to the fast pace of the bait balls and mammals, the MagBay ocean safari's are snorkelling and freediving only!
Authentic Operators
A trip to Socorro across the Pacific requires a trustworthy and highly professional vessel. Rocio Del Mar is a top boat that cruises the Mexican waters year round and offers exquisite facilities and experienced crews. For the Magdalena Bay expedition, we rely on our top partners in the region, Latitude Encounters. Both operators are known to combine authenticity with extreme professionalism. You will not only enjoy, but learn from these experiences, trust us.
The Best Timing
The chosen time slots are arguably the prime timings to be in both of these iconic dive destinations. It seems logical, but the logistics behind it are not always as easy as it seems. We are proud to have set up everything to connect the quality of the diving to the best possible timing of the year. It is what both our clients and these destinations deserve.
In the Spirit of Behind the Mask
Both destinations have been the subject of our production team’s efforts in the last year. We dove in these areas extensively and were overwhelmed about the diversity in marine life, landscapes, the explorative nature of the diving. We really want other ocean enthusiasts to experience these thrills and spread the ocean message between their friends and family.
This trip is open for everybody
Viewpoints from cultures all over the globe inspire us, that’s why we love bringing people from different backgrounds together. The more diverse, the better we feel.
Mexico 🇲🇽
Mexico is probably the most diverse diving country in the world. Pelagic diving, corals, cenotes, sardine runs: it truly has it all. We are stoked to pick out two cherries on top of the Mexico cake. In addition, Mexico’s natural landscape, food and culture is spicy and rich. It’s just one of these destinations where *everything* fits.
The Dream Trip
We don’t say this one often, unless it is truly deserved and appropriate, but this is trip is truly a ‘dream trip’. If you have been waiting for an adventure of a lifetime for a while, this is a pretty safe bet. It’s fast, slow, hot and cold all at the same time. No idea what to make of this description? Come find out for yourself.

Rocio del Mar is custom-designed for diving the waters on Mexico’s west coast and in the Sea of Cortez. The owners know this region well and wanted a vessel that was large, stable and comfortable. Rocio is the result. She isn’t a luxury vessel, but she has 4 decks and plenty of comfortable living space. On the top deck you’ll find a good-sized sundeck, with lounge chairs set up in covered and uncovered areas, plus a great bar & barbecue area and an al fresco dining area for meals, when the weather permits. The upper deck houses 2 large staterooms, the indoor salon and dining area … plus a spacious, covered & protected outdoor salon on the aft deck. The dive deck is located on the main deck along with the other 8 staterooms.
The dive deck is ample and well-designed, with plenty of room for gear and a large camera table for photographers. Nitrox is available and a satellite phone is available onboard for emergencies.
Latitude Encounters are a team of ocean-loving, experienced adventurers.
Led by Mexican Fernanda and Belgian Mathias, Latitude consists of a team of scuba and freedivers with over 10 years in the dive and tourism industry. They joined forces to create Latitude, a company where they can share everything they’ve learned interacting with the ocean with one goal in mind: to give you the opportunity to experience wildlife in a way you never thought possible! Adventure, safety and respect are the main pillars of their operation. We as Behind the Mask were stunned by the professionalism and ocean knowledge of this extremely talented group of people, and are honoured to partner with them for this trip!
