10 nights Wreck Diving on the Pacific Master

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Wrecks for Days 🛻

This is an 11-day program where we'll explore the finest dive sites Truk Lagoon has to offer. You'll have the opportunity to dive into numerous remarkable shipwrecks, many of which are Japanese merchant vessels known as ‘Maru.’ These ships, laden with war materiel like trucks, ordnance, and even planes, now rest beneath the waves, filled with fascinating cargo and artifacts.

Superb Reefs 🪸

Coral reefs in Micronesia, particularly around the islands of Truuk and Palau, are some of the most biodiverse in the world, hosting over 400 species of coral and 1,300 species of fish. These reefs are renowned for their vibrant marine life, including manta rays and reef sharks, making them a hotspot for scientific research and ecotourism.

Shipwreck Survey 🏴‍☠️

For this trip we are partnering up with the The Shipwreck Survey, a collective that yearly organizes multiple underwater archaeological field schools and expeditions in exotic locations around the world. During this trip, participants will have the chance immerse into presentations and workshops on the wrecks that will be explored!

History Lies Beneath 🗺️

Truk Lagoon served as an important base for the Japanese Imperial Navy. In the early morning of February 17, 1944, the US launched an attack on Truk from three aircraft carrier groups nearby. In the battles that followed, the number of taken down vessels and aircraft went on to formed the largest concentration of sunken warships in the world, all covered in coral!

A Unique Adventure 🪂

This is our first BTM Travel wreck diving trip, offering a totally new experience and different adventure. Of course the trip will include top marine wildlife, but the focus of the trip will be on the wrecks and the parts that are waited to be discovered. It's an exceptional opportunity to see how human history has blended in with the underwater world in its very own way.

Pacific Master ⛵

The magnificent Pacific Master will be our home for 10 nights in the middle of Micronesia. This custom-designed liveaboard combines a top crew, good service and a track record of taking divers to the most amazing underwater spectacles. Cruising the Pacific Ocean on this vessel while sleeping on the rhythm of the waves, is a thing of beauty.

Photography Pearl

The photography opportunities in this wreck diving trip are truly spectacular: sunken planes, boats and tons of reefs or animals in stellar diving conditions!

Ruud Stelten

Our Trip Leader Ruud has has directed numerous archaeological projects in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean over the past 14 years! To be under the surface with a marine archeologist brings a whole different angle to the magic that is diving.

Something Different

"We are stoked to have our first wreck diving trip ever going. It's fun to be able to offer a whole new spectrum other than the big animal or reef diving trips we usually organise. Ruud is a specialist in this field, and the perfect man to lead our clients into the wrecks and remains of Pacific historical events." - Marcel Wilpernig

Pacific Master features 12 cabins allowing comfortable accommodation for up to 20 guests. These are categorised into one en-suite premium double cabin, five en-suite premium double/twin cabins, four standard single cabins and two standard twin cabins with shared bathroom facilities.

An incredibly spacious lounge and dining area is located on the main deck of the boat providing plenty of air-conditioned space to unwind and enjoy the on-board cuisine. Individual dive stations provide plenty of space and storage for your dive kit. This area also provides individual toilets, freshwater showers and rinse tanks for your equipment.

Truk Lagoon

Truk Lagoon, in Micronesia, is a premier diving destination known for its incredible underwater World War II wrecks.

The lagoon is a diver’s paradise, featuring over 60 sunken ships, aircraft, and submarines, now covered in vibrant coral and marine life. Clear waters and abundant sea life make each dive a journey through history, where you can witness relics from one of the most significant naval battles of the Pacific. The eerie beauty of the wrecks combined with the lagoon’s tranquil environment offers a unique and unforgettable diving adventure.

A Mexico Double 11/27

Nov 17 - Dec 2, 2027

+++ A Mexico Double +++

🇲🇽

The dream combo: Socorro & Magdalena Bay

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

An Incredible Double 🇲🇽

Mexico is a diving Valhalla. It hosts tons of the most marine diverse areas in the world, and we found nothing better than to combine tow of them in one single trip: A Mexico Double of two destinations that would be worth visiting even individually. Crossing the Atlantic with a purpose, that is a 4 day ocean safari in Magbay on the Rocio del Mar, followed by a week Socorro liveaboard with Latitude Encounters!

Socorro Island 🪨

Revillagigedo's archipelago's most well known island Socorro, is a magnet for large pelagics such as oceanic mantas, tons of sharks, dolphins and big schools of fish. It’s mysterious and humongous underwater rock formations are as spectacular as the animals that surround it. + November in Socorro means a very decent shot at whale shark sightings!

Magdalena Bay 🌊

Each year in November, Magdalena Bay is home to the second biggest sardine migration in the world, attracting big pelagic fish such as marlins and sea lions. The place is a whale hotspot too, and has the famous mobula ray schools cruising through. Important: due to the fast pace of the bait balls, the ocean safari's are snorkelling and freediving only!

Authentic Operators 🛥️

Rocio Del Mar is a top boat that cruises the Mexican waters year round and offers exquisite facilities and experienced crews. For the Magdalena Bay expedition, we rely on our top partners in the region, Latitude Encounters. Both operators are known to combine authenticity with extreme professionalism. Well informed, warm hearted and safe!

The Best Timing ⌚

The chosen time slots are arguably the prime timings to be in both of these iconic dive destinations. It seems logical, but the logistics behind it are not always as easy as one might think. We are proud to have set up everything to connect the quality of the diving to the best possible timing of the year. It is what both our clients and these destinations deserve.

Behind the Mask ⚡

Both destinations have been the subject of our production team’s efforts in the last years. We dove in these areas extensively and were overwhelmed about the diversity in marine life, landscapes, the explorative nature of the diving. We really want other ocean enthusiasts to experience these thrills and spread the ocean message between their friends and family.

Top of our Range

Both Socorro and Magbay are at the absolute top of our range price quality wise. High end interaction at an affordable rate!

Mexico 🇲🇽

Mexico is probably the most diverse diving country in the world. Pelagic diving, corals, cenotes, sardine runs: it truly has it all. We are stoked to pick out two cherries on top of the Mexico cake. In addition, Mexico’s natural landscape, food and culture is spicy and rich. It’s just one of these destinations where *everything* fits.

The Dream Trip

We don’t say this one often, unless it is truly deserved and appropriate, but this is trip is truly a ‘dream trip’. If you have been waiting for an adventure of a lifetime for a while, this is a pretty safe bet. It’s fast, slow, hot and cold all at the same time. No idea what to make of this description? Come find out for yourself.

Rocio del Mar is custom-designed for diving the waters on Mexico’s west coast and in the Sea of Cortez.  The owners know this region well and wanted a vessel that was large, stable and comfortable.  Rocio is the result.  She isn’t a luxury vessel, but she has 4 decks and plenty of comfortable living space.  On the top deck you’ll find a good-sized sundeck, with lounge chairs set up in covered and uncovered areas, plus a great bar & barbecue area and an al fresco dining area for meals, when the weather permits. The upper deck houses 2 large staterooms, the indoor salon and dining area … plus a spacious, covered & protected outdoor salon on the aft deck. The dive deck is located on the main deck along with the other 8 staterooms.

The dive deck is ample and well-designed, with plenty of room for gear and a large camera table for photographers. Nitrox is available and a satellite phone is available onboard for emergencies.

Latitude Encounters are a team of ocean-loving, experienced adventurers.

Led by Mexican Fernanda and Belgian Mathias, Latitude consists of a team of scuba and freedivers with over 10 years in the dive and tourism industry. They joined forces to create Latitude, a company where they can share everything they’ve learned interacting with the ocean with one goal in mind:  to give you the opportunity to experience wildlife in a way you never thought possible! Adventure, safety and respect are the main pillars of their operation. We as Behind the Mask were stunned by the professionalism and ocean knowledge of this extremely talented group of people, and are honoured to partner with them for this trip!

Tubbataha on the Solitude One

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Stunning Reefs

The reefs of Tubbataha are nothing less than an epicentre of marine life. With one of the highest coral densities in the world, Tubbataha's dives are an explosion of colours and forms of all kinds: the reef's ecosystem supports over 360 species of coral and 700 species of fish. No wonder this is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This region is only accessible by liveaboard!

Large Pelagics

Tubbataha's reefs are not only famous for the coral forests it is home to, also larger pelagic animals roam these waters! Whale sharks, thresher sharks and manta's are passing through our itinerary right in the time when we venture out! Reef sharks are residents, and out in the blue silky sharks and many other species can pop up as well. Anything can happen here!

Top Liveaboard

The operator's flagship, the Solitude One, has undergone recent refurbishments, integrating cutting-edge onboard safety and diving technologies. The vessel was created to blend cool design, practicality, and comfy vibe without overdoing it. The local crew makes sure they know each guest by name and pops in only when it's necessary, so you get that cozy "home away from home" feel with all the privacy and exclusivity you want.

Unforgettable Sunsets

The Philippines is renowned for its breathtaking sunsets, which paint the skies in a palette of fiery oranges, pinks, and purples with bangka's and beaches in the background. It is a setting that is truly incomparable, and one of the most underrated events. The top deck of this wonderful Liveaboard might just be the best way to enjoy it, too!

The Best Itinerary

This 13 night extended transitioning trip brings us from Cebu, all the way to the southern Visayas to Tubbataha. It's an endless string of underwater highlights in a region that just bursts with life. This gives you the chance to enjoy the absolute maximum of what the Philippines have to offer.

Unique Circle

Uniting dynamic divers of different nationalities fosters a global community, where shared passion and appreciation for marine life can transcend language and cultural differences. Connecting people both above and below the waves is what drives us!

One We Fought For

"The Solitude One on an extended itinerary is something everything agent wants to offer to his clients. It was not easy to get our hands on a trip with this capacity, on the best itinerary in the best time of year. The combo of the colourful Visayas and the massive diversity of Tubbataha is truly what pristine diving looks like."

The Solitude One

The Solitude One is a well-known liveaboard dive yacht that offers a high-quality diving experience in various marine environments. This vessel is designed for divers’ comfort and adventure.

Equipped with spacious cabins, modern facilities, and an experienced crew, the Solitude One provides a comfortable stay for those looking to explore remote dive sites.

The yacht focuses on personalized service and delivering memorable diving experiences. Whether you’re diving in the Maldives, Palau, or the Philippines, the Solitude One promises a blend of luxury, adventure, and natural beauty for divers seeking extraordinary underwater journeys.

The Visayas and Tubbataha

The Visayas and Tubbataha regions offer a captivating underwater experience in the Philippines.

The Visayas, a central cluster of islands, boasts a reputation for its vibrant marine life, splendid coral reefs, and numerous dive sites, including destinations such as Malapascua, Moalboal, and Apo Island. Here, divers can encounter a plethora of marine species, from schools of colorful fish to majestic sea turtles, and even the occasional sighting of gentle giants like whale sharks. The Visayas caters to divers of all levels of expertise with dive sites like Monad Shoal, renowned for its thresher shark encounters, and the enchanting Pescador Island and Siquijor.

In contrast, Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in the remote Sulu Sea. It is celebrated for its pristine coral reefs and a diverse range of marine life, including awe-inspiring encounters with sharks, manta rays, barracudas, and an abundance of vibrant reef fish. The dive sites within Tubbataha, notably the North Atoll and the South Atoll, offer a range of experiences, from exhilarating wall dives to breathtaking drop-offs. However, it’s important to note that diving in Tubbataha is restricted to a specific season, typically from mid-March to mid-June when the weather conditions are most favorable.

Both the Visayas and Tubbataha present unique and memorable diving opportunities. While the Visayas provides accessibility and a variety of dive sites for all skill levels, Tubbataha offers a more secluded and pristine diving experience, making it ideal for those seeking untouched underwater ecosystems.

Divers are advised to ensure they are certified and experienced, especially when considering Tubbataha, given its remote location and protected status. Collaborating with reputable dive operators and adhering to environmental guidelines is essential to help protect and preserve these precious marine environments.

+++ Best of Tuamotus +++

Wall of Sharks
