Azores Wild Atlantic - 07/2027

Jul 25th - Aug 8, 2027

Azores Raw Atlantic

14 nights in Faial & Santa Maria 🇵🇹

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Sensational Sharks 🦈

The waters around the island of Faial still attract blue sharks species in large numbers. During these dives, other shark species such as mako sharks and smooth hammerheads can sometimes be spotted! And that is not all. Around the end of summer the warmer waters around the Azorean island of Santa Maria attract the ocean's largest fish: whale sharks.

Dolphins & Whales 🐋

The Azores are a true hotspot for cetaceans, predominantly whales and dolphins. One of the most emblematic species around the island are sperm whales.Although diving with these giants is not allowed without permit, experiencing their presence from a small boat can be just as exhilarating. Jumping in with the giant pods of dolphins is allowed though!

Manta Madness 🪁

Flocking together in groups as big as 60 individuals, the sickle fin devil ray spends the summer around offshore seamounts in Azorean waters of Princess Alice. This rock formation does not only attract rays either, as large schools of other fish are often seen around the pinnacle. Schools of tuna, barracuda and amberjacks are often spotted sawrming the area.

Unique Combotrip 🌋

The Azores comprise of 9 islands, offering travellers a lot of areas to explore. We want to make sure  people making the journey here, can actually enjoy as much of the marine spectacles as possible. That is why we offer a combotrip to of arguably the best diving places in the archipelago for large pelagics and more: both Faial and Santa Maria.

BTM Trip Leader 🇵🇹

There is no one better to lead our valued divers than a Portuguese dive instructor who lives for diving and knows the Azores inside out. Meet Filipe Casal Ribeiro, your BTM Trip Leader for this trip. He is the guy that will fix your buoyancy, tell you how ghostnets are taken out of our oceans and can imitate the Azores dialect like no other!

Small Group Travel 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦

In order to keep the interactions in the water as authentic as possible, we try to keep our group travels small and intimate. We set a maximum group size of 8 people for this journey to the Volcanic island in the middle of the Atlantic. The Azores are a place where time stood still, and we want to do our best to help keep it that way.

This place is alive

"The Azores are a top destination on our European doorstep. Hardly any mass tourism, authentic small accommodations and warm hearted people. The ocean is full of surprises here: dolphins, sharks, whales... There always seems to be something that is popping out on the surface. It's just alive. We had a great time in Santa Maria last year, and I'm happy we can finally bring a limited group of divers there to experience something different."

The Azores

The Azores (Portuguese: Açores) are an island archipelago located in the North Atlantic Ocean, roughly halfway between mainland Portugal and North America. The archipelago consists of nine islands of volcanic origin that are known for their untouched natural scenery and friendly inhabitants. Apart from the volcanic craters, green meadows, lakes and waterfalls, Azores are a true eco-tourism paradise offering incredible marine biodiversity, whale watching and world-class diving.

The Island of Faial

Located only 4.5 nautical miles from the island of Pico and approximately 14 nautical miles from the island of São Jorge, Faial is one of the ‘Triangle Islands’. Recognised as the yachting capital of the northern hemisphere, it has a strong connection to the sea with its main port – Horta Marina – providing a safe harbour for thousands of vessels as they cross the Atlantic. The number of sailboats huddled in the small bay adds to the charm of this city, which lies in the shadow of the extinct volcano of Guia Hill. No visit to Horta is complete without a visit to one of its most famous Portuguese bars – Peter’s Café Sport. Overlooking the Marina with Mount Pico as its backdrop, the walls are covered in flags left by travellers, giving the bar a sense of the history of the city. Faial was the site of the Azores last major eruption, the Capelinhos Volcano (1957/58). The landscape created by the eruption on the island’s west tip makes for a fascinating day trip and the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre has lots of information about the devastation caused by the event.

The Island of Santa Maria

Santa Maria is one of the nine islands that make up the Azores archipelago, situated in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is the southernmost and oldest of the Azorean islands, with a rich history dating back to its discovery in 1427. Santa Maria is known for its stunning natural beauty, featuring lush green landscapes, picturesque beaches, and rugged cliffs. The island’s climate is relatively dry and warm compared to the other Azorean islands, making it a popular destination for sun-seekers and outdoor enthusiasts. Santa Maria also offers a glimpse into its historical past with charming villages, traditional architecture, and cultural festivals that celebrate its unique heritage.

More about Azores islands

All the nine islands of the Azores Archipelago are of volcanic origin and are located in the North Atlantic, scattered along a 600 km stretch of ocean from Santa Maria to Corvo, approximately between 37° and 40° north latitude and 25° and 31° west longitude.

The islands of the archipelago are divided in three geographical groups: the Eastern Group, comprising Santa Maria and São Miguel, the Central Group, including Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial, and the Western Group, composed by Corvo and Flores. The Azores, along with the archipelagos of Madeira, Canary Islands and Cape Verde, constitute the biogeographic region of Macaronesia, a name which means “fortunate islands” for those who live there and visit them.

In the realm of legend, some associate the Azores to the Atlantis, the mythical island kingdom quoted by Plato. As for history, references to nine islands in the Atlantic Ocean located approximately in the position of the Azores can be found in books and maps since the 14th century. However, it was with the Portuguese Maritime Discoveries, led by Prince Infante D. Henrique, that the Azores were definitely registered in the map of Europe. It is unknown whether the first navigator to reach the archipelago was Diogo de Silves in 1427 or Gonçalo Velho Cabral in 1431. The origin of the name Azores is also debatable as there are various theories. The most common associates the designation of the common buzzards found on the islands which were mistaken as being another bird of prey: the northern goshawk (açor). What is now certain is that it was Prince Infante D. Henrique who incited the settlement of the islands. First, animals were sent, between 1431 and 1432, and later settlers started to arrive from 1439.

From that date, the settlement continued throughout the 15th century (Western and Central Groups) and the 16th century (Western Group). Jews, Moors, Flemish, Genovese, Englishmen, Frenchmen, and African slaves came together with the Portuguese from the mainland to face the hardships of such a task.

This epic start moulded a people that throughout the centuries was able to resist volcanic eruptions, isolation, invasions of pirates, political wars and infesting diseases. The courage of the Azorean people was confirmed when they resisted the Spanish domination during the succession crisis of 1580, and when they supported the liberal movement during the civil war (1828-1834).

The Azores have a long list of natural parks, of areas of protected landscape, of protected fauna and flora species, of forest reserves, and of sites with geological interest guaranteeing the preservation of a priceless natural legacy. As a form of compensation for all of this effort, the Azores are considered to be a sanctuary of biodiversity and geodiversity and one of the best locations for Nature Tourism.

In the Atlantic Ocean, life multiplies itself by more than two dozen species of dolphins and whales that either inhabit or pass through Azorean waters. There are abundant colonies of molluscs, crustaceous and fish, thus completing the region’s extraordinary marine diversity.

Tiger Beach & Bimini - Nov 2027

Nov 24 - Dec 1, 2027

+++ Tiger Beach & Bimini +++

7 nights on the Blue Marlin

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Massive Tigers 🐅

You can find tiger sharks in pretty much all corners of the globe, yet in the Bahamas they are truly massive. The crystal clear water and sandy bottom make for a scenery that is not to be compared with any other ocean in the world. Mysterious, threatening yet so damn beautiful.

Great Hammerheads ⚒️

If Tigers aren't enough, there are a few absolute juggernauts of Great Hammerheads cruising around these beaches too. Probably one of the most elusive sharks around with its quirky shape and massive dorsal fin. No better place in the world to get eye to eye with these wild apex predators.

Magic Dolphins 🐬

Bahamas is more than just sharks, too. One of Bimini’s most unforgettable experiences is swimming freely with Atlantic spotted dolphins and bottlenose dolphins! They show up more frequently in Summer, yet in Winter eye to eye experiences are common too!

Bahamas Paradise 🏝️

The Bahamas is a boat-lover’s paradise, with endless turquoise waters stretching across hundreds of islands and white sandy beaches. Cruising between shallow sandbanks and hidden coves feels like floating through a giant natural swimming pool.

Fresh Vessel 🛥️

The Blue Marlin is a brand new vessel, a new operation taking on Tiger Beach and Bimini shark diving. Owned by the French company Seafari, it's built for resilience and world class diving. Just what we want to hear.

Timing is Key ⏱️

November falls right in the peak season at Tiger Beach and is one of the best months for shark encounters since it's the start of Hammerhead Season. The prime period runs from roughly November to April, offering stable weather, clear visibility, and a high concentration of sharks.

Big Animal Diving

One of the cornerstones of our travel company, is Big Animal Diving. This trip is right up there with the biggest of big animal trips. Sharks for days, dorsal and pectoral fins and that strong energy of an apex predators.

An All Time Classic

"I have been twice to this mysterious sandy bottom home to the biggest sharks on earth. Each time it's as impressive when you descend down there. It looks so peaceful and calm, then there is this absolute gigantic animal appearing out of nothing in this paradise scenery.. We keep coming back here with good reason."

- Marcel, BTM Travel Founder -

A Long Time Coming

"I have been wanting to come to Tiger Beach and Bimini since practically the year I started diving. I booked a liveaboard that year, but instead of going to these 2 shark spots, went the complete opposite direction of the Bahamas and the whole trip was only about corals. It's time to make up for this mistake..."

Shark diving in the Bahamas—especially around Bimini and Tiger Beach—is considered some of the best in the world due to clear waters, shallow sandy bottoms, and reliable shark encounters. Bimini is famous for its great hammerhead season, typically running from December to April, when these massive, graceful sharks migrate close to shore. Divers often kneel on sandy bottoms as the hammerheads glide past within a few meters, accompanied by nurse sharks, bull sharks, and Caribbean reef sharks.

Tiger Beach, located off the West End of Grand Bahama, is legendary for its population of tiger sharks. The site offers exceptional visibility—often 30–40 meters—and a calm, shallow environment, making encounters more controlled and photogenic. Divers can expect tiger sharks circling confidently among lemon sharks and reef sharks, creating a high-adrenaline but well-managed environment with experienced operators prioritizing safety and environmental respect.

Both destinations attract underwater photographers, conservation-oriented travelers, and thrill-seekers who want close, respectful interactions with apex predators Whether you choose the hammerheads of Bimini or the tigers of Tiger Beach, the Bahamas offers one of the most unforgettable big-animal diving experiences on the planet.

Diving in Komodo National Park is often described as one of the most thrilling underwater experiences on the planet. This UNESCO World Heritage site is home to an incredible diversity of marine life, from swirling schools of fish and vibrant coral gardens to powerful currents that attract large pelagics. Sites like Batu Bolong, Castle Rock, and Crystal Rock are famous for their breathtaking visibility and the constant presence of reef sharks, manta rays, and trevallies. Each dive reveals a different side of Komodo’s ecosystem, shaped by the nutrient-rich waters flowing through the Indonesian Throughflow.

Just beyond Komodo, Sumbawa Island offers a more off-the-radar experience that feels like diving in Indonesia decades ago. With fewer boats and divers, Sumbawa’s reefs remain pristine and teeming with life. You’ll find colorful soft corals, pygmy seahorses, and the occasional turtle gliding through untouched coral slopes. The island’s remoteness gives dives here an exploratory feel — as if every descent could reveal a new, undiscovered site.

One of Sumbawa’s most spectacular highlights is Saleh Bay, home to the majestic whale sharks that gather year-round. Divers and snorkelers can often encounter these gentle giants up close, gliding peacefully through the water in search of plankton. Unlike other whale shark destinations, Saleh Bay remains quiet and uncrowded, offering an intimate and unforgettable experience with the world’s largest fish.

Together, Komodo and Sumbawa create a rare combination of world-class diving and wild exploration. From high-adrenaline drift dives and manta cleaning stations to tranquil coral gardens and encounters with whale sharks, this region showcases the full spectrum of Indonesia’s underwater beauty. For divers seeking both excitement and authenticity, it’s a journey that delivers adventure, serenity, and discovery in equal measure.

Svalbard Around the Arctic Circle - Aug 27

Svalbard - Around the Arctic Circle

9 nights on board R/V Kinfish 🇳🇴

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Pioneering 👣

Svalbard remains one of the few places on Earth where nature rules and the human footprint is minimal. This is a pioneer departure, where we seek out secluded fjords, glaciers, and wildlife hotspots based on guidance from experienced locals. Join us as we chart the foundations for future expeditions and pave the way for respectful wildlife travel.

Walrus Colonies 🧊

Characterized by their long tusks and blubbery bodies, the Arctic waters are home to large colonies of giant Walruses. The icy waters provide an abundant supply of clams, mollusks, and other bottom-dwelling creatures that walruses feed on. An extremely rare animal with astonishing body features, and a dream to photograph!

Polar Bears 🐻‍❄️

Polar bears, the apex predators of the Arctic, rely on sea ice as a platform for hunting seals, their primary prey. For many people these almost mythical and hyper powerful creatures in  a dream to observe and photograph. Usually only to be seen on TV or wildlife photographer, this trips offers an awe-inspiring glimpse into the resilient bears of the Arctic.

Stunning Scenery ❄️

The landscape around Svalbard in the Arctic is a breathtaking blend of rugged mountains, expansive glaciers, and pristine fjords, all bathed in ethereal light during the midnight sun or polar night. This remote archipelago's wild beauty provides a dramatic backdrop to go spot Arctic wildlife, from polar bears to arctic foxes, puffins, seals and walrus.

Whale Wonders 🐋

During summer in the Arctic Circle, the nutrient-rich waters come alive with whales like blue whales, humpbacks, belugas, and bowheads, taking advantage of the light to feast on abundant prey. These gentle giants often breach or surface near the ice edges, offering unforgettable encounters in the serene polar environment.

Expedition Kinfish 🛥️

The Kinfish is a small ship with a rich history and raw character. The vessel is used for research quests during the winter months, such as uncovering the history of Norway and finding Viking remains. With a fantastic stabilisation system, this vessel provides a high level of comfort for a superior cruising experience.

Unchartered Territory

This destination is quite literally "off the grid": Svalbard is close to the most Northern parts of our planet, distinctively different from other ocean travel destinations. What it lacks in traditional diving, it makes up for in breathtaking scenery.

The Arctic Circle

Cruising through icy waters and dramatic fjords provides unparalleled access to remote regions, where encounters with with wildlife are real. This journey into the pristine wilderness delivers an awe-inspiring connection to nature and its most resilient creatures living in ice environments.

Direction North Pole

"Ice is one of the surfaces we have discovered the least over the last couple of years. For obvious reasons it is harder to reach, colder to enjoy and resource intensive. At the same time, these regions still offer a true wilderness that is hard to experience anywhere else on the planet. Mads has become a partner and friend over the last years, and is the right guy to guide us through the ice. This is a unique one and I am very proud to offer it. "

Svalbard in August is a place of quiet beauty and raw nature, where the Arctic summer is in full swing. The days are still long, and the sea ice has retreated enough to allow boats to navigate deeper into the archipelago’s remote areas. This is the time when wildlife is most active, taking advantage of the brief but productive summer. You might spot polar bears wandering along the shorelines, searching for seals or scavenging the ice edges. Walruses gather in groups on sandy beaches, while Arctic foxes scurry across the tundra in search of food. It’s also a great time for birdwatching, as species like puffins and guillemots nest along the cliffs.

Out on the water, you’re likely to encounter whales, including belugas and even the occasional blue whale, taking advantage of the rich feeding grounds. Seals are a common sight, lounging on ice floes or darting through the icy water. The landscape itself is a reminder of how wild and untouched this part of the world remains, with glaciers calving into the sea and mountains rising dramatically against the horizon. August feels like a window into another world, where humans are just visitors, and the rhythms of nature carry on as they have for thousands of years.

Raja Ampat refers to an archipelago with more than 1500 islands with the four main islands of Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Misool and is part of the Coral Triangle making it one of the richest bio diversity of the world.

Because his strategic location on the western Pacific Ocean, currents troughflows arriving to the archipelago from very deep water to shallow water, making stratospheric numbers more that 500 different species of corals in that area, ten times more than the Caribbean.

Raja Ampat translates from the Indonesian language to Four Kings.

Misool, the most southern island, has an abundance of marine life, a variety of underwater seamounts, smaller pinnacles, coral walls and coral gardens, covered in giant sea fans, soft corals in all colours, massive table corals and countless fish. This is a great place to find the elusive epaulette shark, or walking shark. It is a nocturnal shark that sneaks up on its pray by walking closer and closer to it. It is largely a marine park set up by Misool Eco Resort in cooperation with all the local villages, not to fish inside this area. It gets patrolled by the park rangers.

The Dampier Strait, between Waigeo and Batanta, beautiful coral gardens, underwater pinnacles or seamounts, sandy bottom with coral heads and cleaning stations. Here we can find even more nutrients bringing in bigger predators like giant trevallies, yellow fin tuna, rainbow runners and even some sharks like blacktip, grey reef, white tip sharks. It is also one of the few places in the world where we can find two species of Manta rays on the same dive sites.

Night dives are a joy in Northern Raja Ampat.
We offer you the opportunity to visit local villages or there hike up to one of the lookout points.

The Banda Sea is spectacular as it is very remote due to its location and possibility of rougher seas. Crystal clear waters, bottomless dropoffs, colorful coral pinnacles and so much more. After the eruption (1988) of Gunung Api close to Banda Neira, the lava flowed into the sea covering and over throwing the coral below.

You will be amazed by the fast recovery of the hard-coral garden that grew in its place. For the night/dusk dive we can see the ma- ting dance of the very colorful mandarin fish, search for frogfish, seahorses, razorfish and octopus.

We offer you the opportunity to visit the old historic town of Banda Neira. Here you will find many remains of the Dutch and English spice trade. We will visit an old nutmeg plantation and have a little taste of how you can make great use of this famous spice that once was believed to cure the plague.

The fort Belgica offers great views of the port and Gunung Api.

Koon Island, again a very remote location that it lays between the Ceram, Arafula Sea the Banda Sea, feeding of very nutritious currents fish and corals thrive here like never seen before.

Raja Ampat translated from the Indonesian language it
means Four Kings. It refers to an archipelago with more than 1500 islands with the four main islands of Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Misool and is part of the Coral Triangle making it one of the richest biodiversity of the world.

More than 1300 different species of fishes and more than 600 different spices of corals are some of the
beauties from this Indonesian paradise.

Ambon, the capital of the Maluku’s province. It is the most populated city in the area and its phenomenal muck diving is considered as one of the best in the world. The city is spit by an enormous Bay, that since recently is connected by a bridge.
Cuttlefish, seahorses, octopus and many other critters find their home in this deep Bay. It is muck diving in its purest
state.

Niue's Humpback Whales

Giants of the Pacific

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Humpback whales 🐋

Niue is one of only a handful of places in the world where you are allowed to swim with one of our ocean's most interactive and fascinating whale species: humpback whales. Our encounters here have been simply spectacular: intimate, wild and respectful.

Small group travel 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

On this tour we will have a small group of 5 ocean lovers to offer the best experience in the water. No big groups, ocean full of fins and divers, but spacious and controlled water entries is what we safeguard. Not just for us, but most of all for the animals.

Dolphins 🐬

It's not just the whales that put up a show. We regularly come across the resident spinner dolphins along the way allowing for a possible in-water interaction, making this a cetacean fest for all types of divers to enjoy!

Incredible Vis 🎯

This snorkeling trip offers one of the best visibility levels we have ever witnessed out in the blue. On some days you can see as far as 40 to 50 meters, and on exceptional days up to even 80! The perfect conditions to make the best whale shots imaginable.

Unknown territory 🌅

Compared to other well known dive destinations, Niue Island has not reached frequent dive tourism, which shows on the island culture and the interactions with the animals. We love offering these destinations to our clients, and be ahead of the pack.

Dynamic Operator 🎆

A relaxed atmosphere, pristine dive conditions and light hearted conversations form the pillars of our ocean adventures. Our operator consists of a dynamic team that contributes to the most authentic experience possible!

Pacific Hotspot

We love the Pacific. From the manta's of Socorro, the iguanas in the Galápagos to the spawning in Palau. Niue brings that Pacific big animal magic, isolated and majestic.

Too good to be true?

"We were a tiny bit sceptical when we heard the noises about Niue. A fairly undiscovered and preserved whale sanctuary, where you respectful interactions are more or less guaranteed, is it possible? Our scepticism was unjustified. The vis was incredible, the whales are calm and interactive, the team of Niue Blue is professional and dynamic. It's a perfect combo for a whale wonder adventure."

Get in touch about this trip!

Sep 3 –  17, 2027

The only way to reach Niue is by taking a 3-hour direct flight from Auckland International Airport, 2 times a week every Tuesday and Saturday. As we are crossing the international dateline the arrival will be one day before. This means you have to catch the early morning flight (around 9 a.m.) on the 4th from Auckland to Niue to arrive on the day before. We will spend 14 nights on the island – from Sep 3 – 17, 2027.

Meeting Point for this trip will be in Auckland accordingly. Your tour leader will be in a hotel nearby the airport the night prior to the departure to meet you there. We will publish and offer the hotel overnights as soon as flights will be available (11 months before departure). Feel free to ask us about packages including your international flights or also extension programs in New Zealand.

Action plan:

Meeting times will be discussed on spot for the next day. We will meet for breakfast of course and head from there together to the dive shop.

For your whale and freediving adventures we will enjoy the private boat with maximum 6 passengers. The whale trips normally take up to 4 hours and will happen either in the morning or in the afternoon, depending on weather conditions, guests or the trip leader’s decision. It’s not really possible to say which times are better as nature is unpredictable. If there are no whales to be found we will use the time to get some water time in the magical caves or on the reefs of Niue. The package includes 10 days of excursions on the water. On 2 of those days we will add a freediving experience either before or after the whale search in the caves and reefs around the island. On the free day we will enjoy a special island tour from Niue Blue. This leaves us with another 2 full days for your own activities and adventures. Please note that in Niue there are no shops or companies working on Sundays. It’s a strictly sabbatical day, same as in the Kingdom of Tonga. This local tradition should be kept in mind and respected.

Scenic Matavai Resort

As the only full service resort on Niue, the Scenic Matavai Resort offers the best of both worlds — an uncrowded, authentic Niuean experience with the convenience of contemporary luxury. Enjoy watching Humpback Whales and Spinner Dolphins right from the deck while enjoying a meal from of the two onsite restaurants and finish the evening with cocktails by the pool.

Fakaalofa lahi atu – Welcome to beautiful Niue

Niue is a Pacific Island paradise like no other – one of the smallest countries and one of the largest raised coral atolls on earth. It’s a place where it’s normal for complete strangers to wave at each other, a place where nature hasn’t been broken and things are ‘the way they used to be’. Niue is a large upraised coral atoll, positioned as a standalone island in the centre of a triangle of nations made up of Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands. It’s located 2400km northeast of New Zealand, on the eastern side of the international dateline.

The island’s isolation and coral origins make for an exciting coastline. There are no lakes or rivers that runoff into the ocean which ensures crystal clear water year round. The whole island is dotted with a myriad of caves, sheltered rocky coves and secret beaches, some of which have yet to be explored. The Huvalu Rainforest is home to amazing indigenous trees and has been designated as a Conservation Area to protect and conserve the islands primary rainforest and natural fauna and flora. Scattered throughout the 14 neat and colorful villages, Niue’s less than 1500 residents enjoy dual citizenship, as a self-governing nation in free association with New Zealand. They are bilingual, speaking both Niuean and English, and enjoy an independent lifestyle. The locals are very respectful, genuinely friendly and hospitable to visitors and have accepted tourism as an important component to their economic development and well-being. They are well educated and enjoy life.

Humpback whales of Niue Island

From July to October each year the Humpback whales arrive in Niue’s waters to nurse their young. Niue is one of only a handful of places in the world where you are allowed to swim with the whales. Mother nature of course doesn’t guarantee an experience so whale interactions are strictly dependent on the whales being around, within range, settled and the weather conditions being safe. At night, you can sometimes hear the whales slapping their giant fins against the water and you may even be kept awake by their calls, unlike anywhere else in the world – they can come that close to the shore because the water is so deep.
As far as we know the density of the whales is not as high as in Tonga. However, there are only three operators with a handful of boats for whale watching, so expect little or no traffic on the water. Also, as Niue is made entirely of porous limestone, it has no lakes or streams. This means that the rain quickly filters through the island into the sea below, resulting in no sediment in the water and the visibility (diver’s favorite word) can be up to 80 meters. This clarity is ranked amongst the very best in the world and, coupled with the warm water, makes for an exceptional dive, snorkel and freediving experience!
On land Niue Island offers you beautiful landscapes and grotesque limestone formations on its coast. Take a walk along the coastline or through Niue’s tropical rainforest and experience ancient Polynesian wilderness first-hand. Also, there are bicycles and even e-bikes to rent to explore the island.

Aug 20 –  Sep 3, 2027

The only way to reach Niue is by taking a 3-hour direct flight from Auckland International Airport, 2 times a week every Tuesday and Saturday. As we are crossing the international dateline the arrival will be one day before. This means you have to catch the early morning flight (around 9 a.m.) on the 21st from Auckland to Niue to arrive on the day before. We will spend 14 nights on the island – from Aug 20 – Sep 3, 2027.

Formoso's Eyes - Anaconda Expedition

🇧🇷

5 days anacondas & river wildlife

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Anacondas 🔍

Deep in the wetlands of South America one of the world’s largest and most powerful snakes lays hidden. A master of stealth and strength, its massive body is perfectly adapted to ambush prey in swamps and rivers. Enough of an invitation for us go to dive with them.

5 days of searching 🚣

Anacondas don't give themselves away easily. During our 5 days expedition, we will spend a lot of time scanning river banks on the lookout for the gigantic elusive animal. Luckily we are not alone, as we have local guides know who know just a tad better where to scan.

Diving Eye to Eye 🤿

Diving with anacondas happens in calm, shallow freshwater, usually around chest-deep. The snakes are huge but surprisingly calm, often just lying still in the weeds or slowly moving through the water. It's all about being in the humbling presence of an apex predator.

Winding Down ✌️

Days on the water can be rewarding, but are intense. We wind down at night at the Bonito Lodge, where every guest will enjoy the comfort of a single room with private bathroom and a hammock.

Small Group 3️⃣

This is as big of an animal encounter as they get. We want to ensure the best experience for each and every diver included. Hence, the smalles group we take on any trip: three people. Intimacy first.

Surrounded by Nature 🦜

Our accommodation leans against the forest, so the animal life in the gardens around is splendid! Big macaws, tucans, capuchin monkeys and all kinds of other birds and lizards are lurking all around.

Animal Galore

Diving with anacondas is one of the rarest underwater encounters one can experience. This trip as exclusive as they come, with a tiny group on the lookout for a juggernaut of a reptile.

Diamond in our Portfolio

“I have always wanted to add an anaconda expedition to our portfolio. Not just because it's so different than anything else we offer, also because it's a damn snake. You just don't expect something of that magnitude and shape in the water. Brazil is pretty amazing too, culturally as well as wildlife wise. Can't wait to see the insane footage of this one."

- Marcel Wilpernig, Behind the Mask Travel-

Why Brazil? 🇧🇷

This powerful snake weaves into local folklore and indigenous traditions, reflecting Brazil’s rich cultural mix shaped by native, African, and European influences. Unlike anywhere else in the world, Brazil’s blend of wild nature and cultural depth makes it one of those destinations that just feels a tad different.

Pure Magbay on the Gallant Lady

Nov 21 - Dec 3, 2027

Pure MagBay on the Gallant Lady

A 12 nights Bait Ball frenzy 🇲🇽

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Magdalena Bay 🇲🇽

Each year in November, Magdalena Bay is home to the second biggest sardine migration in the world, attracting big pelagic fish such as marlins and sea lions. The place is a whale hotspot too, and has the famous mobula ray schools cruising through. We are crossing the Atlantic with a purpose: experience the Mexican bait ball frenzy!

Snorkel & Freediving 🪨

Magbay is a primarily a snorkeling and freediving destination because its incredible marine life, like striped marlins and bait balls, is found near the surface, making tanks unnecessary. The fast-paced action and the need to quickly maneuver in the water are better suited for the agility that freediving and snorkeling offer.

Our Top Tripleader 🌊

Our very own Peter Löseke is a German underwater cinematographer and experienced diver known for his video productions and epic diving trips. He has acquired an incredible underwater knowledge, and is even better at sharing them! We are lucky to have him lead this trip.

Authentic Operators 🛥️

The Gallant Lady is a luxury liveaboard dive boat operated by Nautilus, offering intimate adventures with a maximum of 12 guests for a personalized experience. It features spacious cabins, gourmet dining, and top-notch amenities, ensuring comfort between dives.

Anything Can Happen 🐋

MagBay is a front-row seat to nature’s underwater drama! Not just the sea lions and the marlins steal the show, but occasionally whales, tuna, bonito and even mahi mahi come in to hunt the bait balls. In a place as vibrant, any encounter can happen! This area is alive.

Extended Chance ⚡

The MagBay season is short, that's why trips here usually don't run that long. This 12 night adventure gives you a unique chance to not just get a quick, good encounter, but an absolute stunning one. Time to get up and close, and space to be best prepared.

Top of our Range

Magbay is at the absolute top of our range price quality wise. High end interaction at an affordable rate, and with the Gallant Lady on a top vessel!

Mexico 🇲🇽

Mexico is probably the most diverse diving country in the world. Pelagic diving, corals, cenotes, sardine runs: it truly has it all. We are stoked to pick one of the cherries on top of the Mexico cake with MagBay. In addition, Mexico’s natural landscape, food and culture is spicy and rich. It’s just one of these destinations where *everything* fits.

A Special One

"Having been last year, I was overwhelmed by the absolute stunning biodiversity in this Baja region. I am beyond thrilled to take 11 people on this adventure of a lifetime, in one of the ocean hotspots in the world. Let's freaking go!"

Get in touch!

Day 1 – Board and Get Underway

Meet at SeeCreatures Cabo by 5 pm for the short transfer to embark your ship. Board and set sail up the coast of Baja for the approximately 15 hour run to Magdalena Bay. The sea is usually calm and sheltered inside the bay and barrier islands where we anchor at night. Please note that our interaction with the bait balls of the sardine run is in the open Pacific Ocean.

Day 2 – Welcome to Magdalena Bay!

Late morning arrival in Magdalena Bay. Today is our warmup and tuneup day at the south end of Margarita Island. While this adventure is primarily about snorkelling and free diving with the schooling sardine and bait balls, you will have the opportunity to snorkel with sea lions, and weather permitting, dive on the remains of a large passenger ship that sank more than 200 years ago all well as the wreck of a WW1 submarine.

Days 3 – 11  Enjoy Peak Season of Mag Bay

Let’s fine some bait balls! Our spotter airplane will be up in the air for the first couple days of your trip. These next days are about snorkelling and freediving. Not scuba diving. We never know quite what Mother Ocean has in store for us, but on the vast majority of our trips, we are able to enjoy fairly calm seas with a low swell and loads of critters. Striped marlin and bryde whales are the stars of the sardine run but there is lots more to sea. This is a cooperative eco-tourism program working with local pangas and captains who pivoted from fishing to tourism. Nobody knows these waters and where to find the animals better than these guys. You should also see turtles, more sea lions, sharks, and seabirds. It can be very very exciting.

Day 12

Our spare day for bait balls in case we had inclement weather during the week. Otherwise this is our day to do some scuba diving and also go ashore in the amazing giant sand dunes of Margarita Island. Departing for Cabo mid- afternoon on what is almost always a pleasant downhill ride with gentle motion.

Day 13 – Breakfast & Disembark

Breakfast and then disembark in Cabo by 8:30 am.

The Gallant Lady dive boat is designed with both comfort and functionality in mind, offering ample space for divers to relax and prepare for their underwater adventures. The boat accommodates 12 divers, ensuring an intimate and personalized experience. With a spacious deck, there is plenty of room for equipment storage, and the boat’s design ensures easy access to diving gear for all passengers. Measuring between 15 to 18 meters in length and 4 to 5 meters in width, the Gallant Lady offers stability on the water, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride even in less-than-ideal sea conditions.

Powered by twin high-performance engines, the Gallant Lady can cruise at speeds between 15-20 knots, allowing it to reach dive sites quickly and efficiently. The engines are designed to provide reliable power, even in choppier waters, ensuring that divers can spend more time exploring the depths and less time traveling to dive sites. The boat’s construction and size make it well-suited for a range of dive locations, from shallow reefs to deeper waters.

Safety is a top priority aboard the Gallant Lady. The boat is equipped with all necessary safety features, including life jackets, life rafts, emergency signaling devices, and a fully stocked first aid kit. The crew ensures divers are thoroughly briefed on safety protocols before each dive, and the boat’s design includes easy access to emergency exits and equipment. With its combination of reliability, comfort, and safety, the Gallant Lady provides a seamless and enjoyable dive experience for adventurers of all levels.

The dive deck is ample and well-designed, with plenty of room for gear and a large camera table for photographers. Nitrox is available and a satellite phone is available onboard for emergencies.

Magbay, or Magdalena Bay, located on the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur, Mexico, is a pristine and captivating destination renowned for its natural beauty and abundant wildlife. The bay is a protected area that serves as a crucial breeding ground for gray whales, drawing visitors from around the world for whale watching excursions. The calm waters of Magbay are perfect for a variety of marine activities, including kayaking, paddleboarding, and sport fishing. Its serene, isolated environment offers an escape from the bustle of city life, making it a perfect destination for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

The rich biodiversity of Magbay is another major draw, with vast stretches of mangroves, sand dunes, and lagoons that provide vital habitats for an array of bird species, sea turtles, and marine life. The bay is also home to numerous small islands, some of which are only accessible by boat, adding to the area’s charm and appeal. With its untouched beauty and diverse ecosystems, Magbay is not just a paradise for marine life but also a haven for eco-tourism, attracting travelers who want to experience one of the most unspoiled regions in Mexico.
