+++ Komodo on a Budget 💰 +++

Indo's finest diving at a top price

If you like the following, this trip might be for you:

Komodo NP 🏝️

Komodo National Park is bordered by the Pacific ocean in the north and the Indian Ocean in the south. The water streams causes high exchange of nutritions for the marine life in Komodo, which brings one of the highest bio diversities in the region and even in the world.

Top Timing 🕙

Im May, dry season is in full swing in Indonesia. That means little rain, calm seas and the dragons looking to mate! Visbility is usually still stellar since the nutrient rich waters have not arrived yet. In diving, and maybe in life in general, timing is everything!

Freedivers Welcome🧜🏽‍♀️

On this tour we will have a small group of 8 ocean lovers to offer the best experience in the water, and quite exclusively: both free divers and scuba divers are welcome to join! We will have certified instructors for both activities on board.

Affordable Liveaboard💸

This typical Indonesian phinisi boat offers all comfort and safety to provide you at a spectacular rate. It looks like a pirate boat, but sails like a yacht and costs a fair amount!

Insane Diversity 🍃

The underwater diversity here is beyond imagination. Untouched colorful coral reefs, magnificent Manta rays, reef sharks, turtles and also tiny pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs, frogfishes and much more.

Dragon Island 🐉

Not all the diversity madness in this region is to be found under water. This huge lizard is a true spectacle of nature and the symbol of these islands and a definite highlight.

This trip is open for everybody

Viewpoints from cultures all over the globe inspire us, that’s why we love bringing people from different backgrounds together. The more diverse, the better we feel.

May 11 – 16, 2024 – 5 nights Moana Liveaboard

This Trip is exclusive to freedivers who want to see the best that Komodo has to offer on a single breath. A typical day of freediving here will start early for some guided breathwork, stretching and meditation to welcome the day. As not every scuba diving site makes a great freediving spot and vice versa, we will head to specific spots that are suitable for freediving.

The waters around here can experience stronger currents, which is why we will opt for drift dives, on which a dingy boat will follow us, if the currents are stronger. Since we will have freediving equipment on board we will also have the option to drop a line in a calm bay and do some line diving to reach some greater depths safely while still enjoying the beautiful reefs of Komodo. Because we are having the boat for ourselves, we can simply adjust our route on the go.

Day 1: Embarkation at 11am from Labuan Bajo. The crew will welcome you on board and explain the facilities of the boat. After lunch we will head towards our first dive site to check our equipment and get comfortable in the water.

Day 2-5: Our days typically start with stretching, meditation and breathwork sessions. Throughout the day we will have various water sessions consisting of fun dives, drift dives, night dives and line diving in the top spots of the Komodo National Park.

The exact spots and order in which we will navigate to them will be planned on board to make sure we are there when conditions are favourable. The following dive sites are among the ones we will navigate to: Sebayur Kecil (Turtle point), Gili Lawa, Manta Point, Taka Makassar, Mawan, Siaba Besar, Siaba Kecil and more.

On one day we will do a guided hike to see the Komodo dragons. Delicious meals are served in the morning, at lunchtime and for dinner with snacks and fruit being available in between.

Day 6: Disembarkation at 11am in Labuan Bajo, Flores.

Note: The final trip schedule depends on the weather, sea conditions and the final decision by the boat captain. The crew of Moana has many years of experience and knows the best spots.

Quick facts:

  • Trip length in total 6 days/5 nights
  • 5 water days
  • Average water temperature: 25-28 °C (we recommend a freediving wetsuit with 2-3mm thickness)
  • Surface temperature: very hot days
  • Visibility: 20-30m+
  • Conditions: sometimes stronger currents, which will make drift diving the best choice
  • Suitable for: certified freedivers of all levels

Meet your trip leaders: Adrian Bader & Tianyang Li

Adrian is a passionate freediver and wildlife lover from Germany who studied in Indonesia and speaks Bahasa Indonesia. He is a Molchanovs freediving instructor and takes part in freediving competitions around the globe. On this freediving adventure he will share some of his morning stretching and breathwork routines and keep an eye on the freediers under his watch. The one thing he cannot stop talking about is freediving and he is happy to share from his experience in competitions and the freediving community.

Tianyang is an underwater content creator from China who makes freediving look graceful and mystic in her videos. Formerly being afraid of deep waters, she overcame her fears and now enjoys sharing the waters with whales, sharks and dugongs. She has simple and very effective tips and tricks to make footage from action cameras stand out.

Together Adrian and Tianyang will do everything they can to provide an unforgettable and authentic experience in the waters of Komodo!

Moana

Our home for the duration of this trip will be the beautiful phinisi boat Moana. The boat accommodates a maximum of 10 guests in 5 functional and cozy cabins. There are 3 double bed cabins and 2 twin bed cabins. All of them have individual AC, fans and ensuite bathroom.

A huge 90 sqm main deck will hold plenty of space for early morning stretching sessions and invites to stargaze at the milky way’s breathtaking beauty at night under open sky.

The Moana has received awards for “Best Indonesian Island Cruise Company 2020” by LUX Magazine as well as “Best Liveaboard Diving Experience Indonesia 2021” by SEA Business Awards.

In 1980, Indonesia established Komodo National Park to protect the Komodo dragon and its habitat. But one of the most famous animal in the Komodo National Park is the Komodo dragon!

Komodo Island is the most famous National Park in Indonesia. Mostly of the dive sites are volcanic origin, the islands of the national park lie in relatively shallow waters and the Park is bordered by the Pacific ocean in the north and the Indian Ocean in the south. The water streams causes high exchange of nutritions for the marine life in Komodo. This brings one of the highest bio diversities.

Home to fabulous soft corals & reef fish, plus sharks & mantas enough to make every dive an adventure, in the opinion of many divers Komodo is the pen-ultimate diving/freediving experience in Indonesia. With each dive site in the Komodo National Park, you will experience something different, as this is perhaps the most diverse range of sites in the Indonesian chain. The peaceful coral reefs are pristine and attract an incredible variety of splendid reef fish. But there are also dive sites with strong currents, bringing plankton-rich waters and the pelagics which feed on them . . . tuna, jacks, barracudas, beautiful rays & plentiful sharks.
